Facts About White Holes That Will Have Everyone Scratching Their Heads

You might’ve heard about black holes before, but you probably had no idea that white ones also existed. Well, the term “exist” when applied to space does not mean much more than “has been hypothesized,” kind of like that mysterious Canadian girlfriend your weird acquaintance claims to have. Why the confusion? According to the law of thermodynamics, they shouldn’t exist, but theoretical physics is not so simple. There is justification for believing that black holes might have an equal but opposite phenomenon. If you want to know all about these mysterious bodies that may or may not exist, keep reading!

To define a white hole, we have to define a black one

Einstein’s general relativity is one of the most important theories in modern physics. It refined Newton’s laws of gravity and even anticipated the existence of black holes. It also posits that time is symmetric, which means that everything in the universe has a reversed counterpart.

Therefore, we must first explain black holes to define a white hole. They are regions of spacetime in which gravity is so strong that it doesn’t let anything escape its event horizon. White holes, then, would be regions that spit out light and matter.
