What are those streaks around the black hole?
Back in 2019, humanity managed a feat that was previously thought to be impossible: we photographed a black hole. Well, we took a picture of a hazy orange glow surrounding a dark spot. Nevertheless, new details have come to light.
By polarizing the image, the Event Horizon Telescope team revealed the lines of magnetic energy that the black hole emanates. Why is it important? Because studying the magnetic fields’ structure could give insights into how these objects work, particularly how they expel such potent plasma jets.
